Ahead of this year’s exhibition, we’re excited to share a special Q&A with Jon Blastland, Eakin Healthcare’s Surgical Commercial Director who will be on hand to at the event to discuss all things single use.
Here he tells us a bit more about his role and what drives him…
Please can you tell us a little bit about your role as Commercial Director of the Surgical Team at Eakin Healthcare.
My role is to oversee the commercial elements of the business and tie in with central services in Cardiff to ensure an excellent customer experience, combined with a profit for the board. I have 20 years’ experience in the business and have a good knowledge of the Hospital arena. Customers’ and my colleague’s wellbeing are what drives me – our people are the most important assets we have, and they need to be mentored, allowing them to grow to their full potential.
Can you tell us a bit about your past experience, and what you hope to bring to your new position?
I have been in sales for 38 years and have experienced different industries and that enables me to bring a different perspective to the group. Seeing a happy customer and my colleagues reaching their goals are key to me.
What do you like most about your role?
Every day is different, with a wide reach of contacts both internally and externally. This role allows me to have a wide view of the surgical business but also insights into the group.
How do you spend your spare time?
I enjoy sport, more watching than playing these days! I have recently started coaching my son’s football team and that feels a little bit like work – I’m no longer on the field but I’m passing on my knowledge and skill.
If you could live anywhere, where would you choose and why?
I’m very happy where I currently live in the wilds of Southern Ireland – open spaces, and great people. I’m a country person and couldn’t live in a busy city. One place I haven’t yet visited, but is on the bucket list is Italy (not overly exotic but a place I would like to explore).
If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I have moved away a little from the meat focused diet and try and have a couple of meat-free days per week! I enjoy most types of fish. My favourite takeaway would be an Indian meal, so I guess that would be the one!
What do you admire most about Eakin Surgical?
The passion that everyone has in the business; we are all invested in improving lives and everyone works to the ethos and values of the group, which makes it a great place to work.
